BRAC Development Institute and the Department of Architecture, BRAC University hosted a daylong workshop on “Supporting Local Coping Strategies to Climate Change through Adaptation Planning” on June 17, 2009 at the BRAC Center.

 

 

  • “International Conference on Climate Change and Urban Poverty – Infrastructures of Development” held on 28 January, 2009

 

BRAC Development Institute and the Department of Architecture, BRAC University in association with Brooks World Poverty Institute, University of Manchester hosted the International Conference on Climate Change and Urban Poverty – Infrastructures of Development on 28 January, 2009, at BRAC Centre. The conference focused on the pressing issues of climate variability on the living conditions of the urban poor.

 

Participants from different countries, including, South Africa, UK, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan presented papers, focusing on various dimensions of climate change effects on urban centres around the world. Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr. A.M.A Muhith was the Chief Guest while BRAC Founder and Chairperson, Mr. Fazle Abed was the Special Guest. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC BRAC University chaired the opening session.

 

 

  • Roundtable on Climate Change – November 04, 2008

 

BRAC Development Institute hosted a Roundtable on - Strategy Plan of Action on Climate Change to address the impacts of climate change phenomenon on the livelihoods of the people of Bangladesh, BRAC Development Institute (BDI) engaged in a dialogue with politicians, policymakers, civil society members and technical experts on 4 November, 2008 at Spectra Convention Centre. The half day long workshop focused on the report of Government of Bangladesh on Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan 2008 (BCSSAP).

 

Raja Devashish Roy, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, was present as the Chief Guest. The Honourable Advisor encouraged civil society initiatives on research, advocacy and policy support on climate change. Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, moderated a dynamic and insightful conversation on climate change impacts, adaptations, and mitigation strategies. Syed M.Hashemi, Director of BDI, assisted the Vice Chancellor.
